Peter has always been a mystery for Sprankle-Sprenkle-Sprinkle researchers. We've traced him from Virginia to Ohio to Illinois to Louisiana and back to Ohio and Illinois. So we have all sorts of snipets of information about him, but we aren't positive "who" he is. Our analysis suggests that he is a son of Henry Sprenkle and grandson of the immigrant William.

Peter married at least twice. The first wife about whom we are aware is Polly Martin. Peter & Polly married on 3 Aug 1803 in Rockingham Co., VA. We know they had at least two children: Martin & Phoebe (Perry).

We know that Peter was married later to Juda or Judith, as she was his wife when he deeded land to two of his sons in 1846. We do not know if Judith was the mother of all of the other children we have identified as being Peter's children. Those children are: Levi (who often used the Springle spelling); David, Julia, Mary Ann, & Charles. Census tallies suggest an additional daughter.

A photo of his tombstone is available at:

His age range on the 1830 & 1840 censuses suggests he was born 1770-1780. The tombstone photo reads 1763. Perhaps whomever supplied the information for the tombstone was mistaken.
