In 1850 Charles' brother Levi sold a parcel of land he had bought in 1846 from Peter & Juda. The deed shows Levi "of the Parish of Plaquemines in the State of Louisiana." Charles acted as his agent. The deed does not indicate where Charles lived at the time, but he must have been in Illinois to have acted in this capacity.
However, he was enumerated on the 1850 census and the 1860 census in Louisiana. Apparently he was living in the Woodford Co., IL area when he died. He was unmarried in 1850 & 1860.
Although his tombstone clearly shows that he was born in 1834, that doesn't seem correct. The 1850 & 1860 censuses suggest he was born 1826-1827. Surely had he been born in 1834, he could not have be the "agent" for his brother's 1850 land transaction, as he would only have been 16 years old.
