Charles (or Karl) Schwartz came from his birthplace in Hanover, Germany when he was 2 years old. At 16 years old he enlisted in the Mexican War and was assigned to Company G, 1st Regiment of US Infantry. He was honorably discharged 23 July 1848 at Pascogaula. On 11 Dec. 1857 he married Margaretha Ausbach, also from Germany but living in Minnesota. Ceremony performed by Justice Brown. They had a wedding ceremony performed on 14 May 1862 in St. Henry by Catholic Priest, Rev P. Maly, rector at New Prague, Scott Co., They settled in Ottawa Township, Le Sueur County, Minnesota and raised eleven children. Records show that Charles is buried in Calvary Le Sueur cemetery, Section W.
