KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY
MEDAL OF HONOR POSTHUMOUSLY
Off. Woodock was in the area of the 400 block of E. Eager Street looking for a child molester. He found the suspect sitting with 3 of his friends on some nearby steps. Off. Woodcock placed the suspect under arrest and was walking him to the nearby callbox to request a paddy wagon. The suspect spun sharply and struck Off. Woodock several times on the head knocking him to the ground. The suspect then along with his three friends savagely beat the officer as he was laying near unconscious on the sidewalk. Off. Woodcock died from his injuries @ Mercy Hospital. Officer Woodock had 19 years service with the police department. He was survived by his wife Rose and 1 son who was fighting in WWII. His other son (Charles Woodcock) had recently been killed in action in the Pacific Theater WWII.
