BOOTLEGGER KILLS DEPUTY TOM MAJORS
TWO OTHERS SERIOUSLY HURT IN GUN BATTLE FOLLOWING RAID ON BOOZE CACHE OF LOCAL GANG
George McKenzie, Jailer, and R. E. Martin, Who Stored Booze for Gang, Near Death at Hospital; Five Under Arrest; Kilgore Beats ___ Two With Fists After Shooting
Human blood for the first time has written into the criminal records of Natrona county the most tragic chapter in the outrages of Casper's bootlegging gang at the cost of one life—Deputy Sheriff Tom Majors, 45, shot and killed early Sunday morning in a gun battle which startled the Capitol hill neighborhood from its sleep when county officers directed a raid on a liquor cache. Two others were seriously wounded, one an officer of the law and the other one of the bootlegging ring which connived to defy the law.
George McKenzie, jailer at the Natrona county courthouse and deputized for the raid, received a gunshot wound in the right shoulder which caused a bad laceration and a great loss of blood. Some shot may have penetrated his lungs and his recovery is doubtful.
Roy E. Martin, plumber, at whose shop and home, located on a blind alley in the 100 block on North Washington, off Second street, where the bootleg was stored and the tragedy occurred, has three bullet holes from a .45 caliber gun within a radius on one inch thru his right chest and a flesh wound on the hand. He also may be fatally wounded.
