Jane Williams was a daughter of George Ashwell(1787-1856) native of England and
Elizabeth Walters (1799-1825) native of Wales and was born on the Lot 31, Con. 4 London Township Ashwell farm in Middlesex County, Ontario, Canada.
Her siblings were: Louisa (1823-1894)
(Timothy Schram);
Mary (1824-1875)(William Fraser; and
William (1825-1858)(unmarried).
She married James Williams (May 1823-Feb. 24, 1903) in Oct. 1845 by Rev. James Mitchell, Methodist Episcopal minister of the Melrose church where they attended. He was a son of Christopher Williams and Rebecca Van Every (see Cowdrey Cemetery in Kendall Cty.)
This young couple and the Williams family moved from London Twp. to a farm in Oswego Township, Kendall county sometime
after 1845 but before 1850 as they are on the
Kendall County census by this time.
Jane and James had four known children:
Melissa Ann Williams (1848-1919)(Mrs. John C. Raleigh); George Christopher Williams (1852-1937)(Jennie Spencer); Alice Viola Williams (1853-1927)(William A. Smith and Israel L. Carter); and Julia Mary Williams (1856-1936) unmarried. There may have also been a son named Alonzo I.
