Promoted 14 days later on August 25, 1862 to 1st Lieutant. Final promotion came on May 25, 1864 to Full Captain (not mustered). His rein as a Captain was short lived, he was killed on June 3rd, 1864 at the Battle of Cold Harbour, Va.

For the record Cold Harbour is not a Harbour, and is located in the middle of Virginia, it was on the road to Richmond. The battle of Cold Harbour was the clash that would be General Robert E Lee's last great battle in the field, and the only one that Union General Ulysses S. Grant would regret. The battle dates are from June 1, though June 9, 1864.
