Obituary:

Mrs. Theresa Zigrang of Batch-
town Dies After Short
Illness.

Mrs. Theresa Zigrang was born in Baden, Germany, February 2, 1848. She passed away Friday evening, June 2, 1916, aged 68 years and four months.

She came to America with her parents when a child three years old, and for a number of years resided in St. Louis. October 22 1865 she was united in marriage with Dominic Zigrang, a civil war veteran.

The couple spent several years of life in the neighborhood of Gilead until Mr. Zigrang purchased a farm near Mt. Victory school house where they were happy and prosperous for more than thirty years when the good father and husband was called to his future home, December 10, 1907. The widow continued to reside at the old farm home until December, 1911, when she bought a house and lot in the village of Batchtown joining the home place of her son W. H. Zigrang.

Mrs. Zigrang took great delight in her little home surroundings, and had one of the best kept premises in the town. She was loved by all who knew her, and most affectionately by her immediate relatives.

She was fortunate in having her home close to that of a son who had the willing help of his wife and children in giving the mother and grandmother all necessary attention. When grandma was lonesome, or did not feel well, she knew of a welcome fireside just a few steps from her own home, and many times has she answered the invitation to eat a meal, or stay over night. She was fortunate in having a comfortable dwelling near the homes of three sons with whom she often visited.

One son has his home at Vero, Florida, another at Peoria, and one at Brussels, Illinois. At the time she was stricken, she had her grip packed and her hat and a change of wearing apparel laid out for a contemplated trip to Peoria, where she was to visit at the home of her son John.

She took seriously ill during Tuesday night, May 30, while spending the night at the home of her son W. H. Zigrang. Her sons, John at Peoria, Dominic F. at Vero, Florida, and Paul M. at Brussels were notified the next day. All arrived before death came except the son from Florida who came sometime Saturday night.

The remains were laid to rest by the side of her husband Sunday morning in the Meppen cemetery after high mass and funeral services by Rev. Fr. Wardien who visited her during her fatal illness. The funeral was largely attended and the floral tributes most beautiful. Among those from a distance was Mrs. Frances Kluge of St. Louis, a childhood friend.

The same pall bearers bore the remains of father and mother to the open grave, and there were five days difference in their ages at the time of death. She leaves among the living, six sons, one daughter, thirty-four grandchildren and one great grand child and many sympathizing friends.
