Janitor of K. of P. Lodge For 26 Years
Cyrus Nickey, who serious illness was several times noted in these columns, died at his home on North Pitt street (sic) extended, at two o'clock this morning after a serious illness of ten days. He was 56 years of age, and was born in Frankford township. He was a member of the First Reformed church (sic), the Knights of Pythias, and the Mystic Circle. By trade he was a stone cutter and at one time was employed by the late R.H. Owen, for years the town's leading marble and granite dealer. He was one of the most industrious citizens Carlisle has ever had and as a sexton and a janitor he had a remarkable record. For 37 years he was the faithful and efficient sexton of the First Reformed church (sic), and for 26 years the janitor for the Knights of Pythias Lodge. For years he was a janitor of the Post Office, the Masons, and the Carlisle Trust Company. For eight years he was Curator of the Old Graveyard. He was also a member of the Carlisle Nest of Owls, and the Union Fire Company.
Besides his wife he is survived by the following children, Mrs. W.M. Bradford, Carlisle, George of Trenton, N.J., Richard, Mrs. Roy Swartz, Brainerd and Albert of Carlisle, and Carl and Mary at home. Miss Mary Nickey, of Plainfield, is a sister, and half sisters are Mrs. Ensminger, of Lemoyne, Mrs. Andrew Strickler, of Newville and Mrs. Carrie Weitzel (sic), of Carlisle.
The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:15 o'clock, interment at Mount Zion, Churchtown.
