Emmett was tall and thin, and an excellent farmer, winning many awards at county fairs. He was a hard worker and honest to a fault. He was very determined in his life's course - to marry the girl he loved, and be sealed to her in the LDS temple. He married his sweetheart, Wrilla Ethel Hughes, in Arkansas and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple three years later. They had saved all their money to make the trip out by train to be sealed. After farming in Arkansas and Utah, Emmett moved his family to Arizona to start a new life there. A short time later he was killed by a runaway team of mules, leaving Ethel with two small girls. Ethel and her family, including her parents moved to Idaho, where they stayed.

The cemetery was called the "Union Cemetery" when Emmett was buried there, according to the deed for that plot, which cost $5, as on file in the office of the County Recorder of Graham County.
