Probably buried in the Springfield Burial Ground as he died at an early date and may have been the first to be buried in the older Quaker section. No tombstone has been located. Many of the older ones are broken, illegible, or plain field stones. Many are slate or sandstone which have broken easily. If there had ever been a small stone - about a foot in height - as is commonly found in some of the other Quaker cemeteries nearby, it could have sunk into the ground over time. It is possible there is no stone at all in keeping with the earlier Quaker tradition.

Moses was among the first settlers in the Economy area, coming from Tennessee. It is recorded in Young's 1872 History of Wayne County, IN, that he was the 3rd person to settle in the township. He entered land very early; settled in 1815 on the present site of Economy, along with his brother, Henry.

A founding member of the Springfield Friends Meeting in which he was very active. (Later renamed the Economy Friends Meeting). The first meetinghouse of the new congregation was built in 1816. The first and second meetinghouses stood at the site of the present cemetery. When the town moved up the hill the meeting soon followed. He was chosen as assistant clerk of the Springfield Monthly Meeting when it was founded on March 1, 1820. His mother, Charity, was proposed as an elder in the Monthly Meeting on the same date.

He was an early merchant in the original town when it was located at the cemetery site, before the town moved up the hill. Young's history records on page 308: "Merchants - Walter Thornburg and his son-in-law, Moses Mills, in partnership, afterward [around 1827] established below the hill, on the northwest side of town, a store which was continued by them there for several years, and after the death of Mills, by Thornburg and his son John." This was the second store north of the present town and the third in Perry Township.

On page 684, Young records: "A cluster of houses had been built in the bottoms [the site of the present cemetery], and a store started there by Moses Mills and Walter Thornburgh. In 1828 they built a larger frame building and kept a much larger stock and greater variety of goods. The little town in the bottoms was for a while quite a rival to Economy, but proving sickly it was finally abandoned." And the move up the hill to the present site was completed.

Young's history also records: "The land on which Economy stands was entered and purchased by Henry & Moses Mills, in 1815. They were Tennesseeans. Henry Mills sold to Elihu Swain and William Locke, and they in turn to Charles Osborn, who came in possession in 1819. At the time of the first sale of lots, in 1825, the house of Henry Mills was the only one on the town site."

Moses Mills is the son of Aaron Mills & Charity Mendenhall.

Moses Mills married August 28, 1808 to Elizabeth Thornburg, daughter of Walter & Mary (Baldwin) Thornburg. Elizabeth was born March 12, 1792 and died June 2, 1877.
