September 30, 1917 - September 28, 2010
Delbert B. Burger, 92, of LaPorte, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010, at LaPorte Hospital.
He was born Sept. 30, 1917, in North Liberty, IN, the son of Martin and Dora (Hoover) Burger.
Delbert was a farmer and also worked as a school bus driver for the LaPorte Community Schools for 24 years. He was a member of North Liberty Church of Christ and a past member of the Stillwell Lions Club. He was a loving father, enjoyed life to the fullest and spent most of the winter months in Florida enjoying fishing and playing cards. Delbert always had a garden, until one year ago. We are most grateful for my father's dedication to his loving wife at LaPorte Hospital.
On April 12, 1941, in Lakeville, IN, he married Doris (Hoover) Burger, who survives.
He is also survived by his two daughters, Denise Burger of LaPorte and Debra Plank of LaPorte; son Donald (Sherry) Burger of Orlando, FL; six grandchildren, Tina Burger of Florida, Jenny Salat of LaPorte, Christine Calvert of LaPorte, Jeff Plank of LaPorte, Brian Burger of Florida, and Darrin Burger of Florida; and four great-grandchildren.
Delbert was preceded in death by his parents, son Dean Burger, infant son Ronald Burger, sister Thelma Holdeman, and brother Darrel Burger.
The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home, LaPorte, on Friday, Oct. 1, from 4 to 8 p.m. CST and on Saturday, Oct. 2, from 9 to 10 a.m. EST at North Liberty Church of Christ. Services will be at the church on Saturday at 10 a.m. EST with Rev. Tim Stewart officiating. Interment will follow at Fair Cemetery, North Liberty.
