Seymour Badgley
Seymour Badgley was born in Madison County, Ohio, September 17, 1864 and departed this life at Long Beach, California on December 20, 1936, age 72 years, 3 months, and 3 days.
He was united in marriage to May Lottie Criswell on January 24, 1886. This couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the home of their son J.H. Badgley at Oceanside California on January 24, 1935.
To this happy union 12 children were born; An unamed girl dying a few days after birth, Mildred and Wesley in their third year, and Mrs. Stella Williams at the age of 42 years. The ones that are left to mourn the loss of Mr. Badgley are his wife May Badgley, J.H. Badgley, Long Beach, California; Mrs. Etta Curtis, Houston, Texas; Bruce Badgley, Selden, Kansas; Charley Badgley, Chicago, Ill; Leo Badgley, Selden, Kansas; Harry Badgley, Long Beach, Calif; Ruth L. Garrett, Oakley, Kansas; Oda Simpson, Houston, Texas; and a sister, Mrs. Lillie Nason, Fairfield, Iowa, and his many friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Badgley moved from Iowa to Phillipsburg, Kansas in 1886 and a few years later moved near Selden, Kansas in Sheridan County where they homesteaded and raised their family.
Mr. Badgley was a good provider for his family, always ready to help anyone in need, and if he couldn't say anything good about anyone, he kept quiet; he was one of the true Western Kansas type, a leader not a follower, a type any community is proud of.
Mr. Badgley's body was laid to rest at Long Beach, Calif. It is quite probable that his body will be brought back to Selden, Kansas in the spring for the final resting place.
His last illness began Nov. 2 when he was rushed to a hospital and later taken back to his home at his request. Although attended by the very best doctors, nurses and his loving wife, he could not rally.
Mr. Badgley needs no introduction in this county as he was one of the first land agents here, and was known far and wide. He was a man of great intelligence and business ability of sterling worth. He will be mourned by his numberless friends and family as a great loss.
There were about 30 attending the funeral from Kansas, among them were; Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Nickerson and family, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Nickerson and family, Mr. and Mrs. Rex Nason and family.
We wish to extend our sincere sympathy to the bereaved wife and family in these sad hours.
