William and Elizabeth arrived in New York from Prussia with their children in 1854 aboard the Queen of the West.

Friedrich Wilhelm Seidel was born 7 Aug. 1821 at Braknitz, Jankendorf, Posen, Germany. On 20 Jan. 1850 at Margonin he married 32 year old Anna Elizabeth (Reiter) Schur.

William's father: Gottfried Seidel 6 May 1792-6 March 1854 lived at Braknitz and died from TB (schwindsucht). Gottfried married about 1818 to his 1st wife (William Seidel's mother) she was Dorothea Louise (Stresow)--the daughter of Martin Stresow & Helen Rosina (Strauch). Dorothea died 28 Oct. 1831 at the age of 34 years and 5 months.

Gottfried Seidel married a 2nd time on 29 Jan. 1833 to Anna Louise (Grieger)--the daughter of Christoph Grieger & Erdmuth (Marten).

Anna was born 5 Dec. 1807.
While living at Mecan, Marquette, Wisconsin in 1865 William Seidel was drafted for the Civil War, but his 1/2 brother Frederick Seidel went as his substitute.

William's 1/2 brother Julius Seidel is buried at Springfield, MN.
