Sarah Wanzer Sherman's parentage is problematic. However, she clearly is tied to the Wanzer family of southern Fairfield, Franklin, Vermont, by a deed which purchased land in Section 19, Dundee Township, Kane County, Illinois, October 25, 1841. The land was purchased for her use until she died by Moses Wanzer "of New York City." According to a Wanzer family history, Moses of New York City moved to New York City from Fairfied, Vermont, in 1838. On her death the land was to pass directly to her heirs.

Sarah Wanzer married Marshall Sherman in Fairfield, Vermont, probably before the birth of their first child Buel in 1826. Sarah, her husband and four of their five children arrived in Dundee Township, Kane, Illinois, in 1837. Milo, the fifth child, was born in Kane County.

Sarah and Rev. Marshall Sherman had five children: Buel, Harriet, Cordelia, Katherine and Milo L.

Though her tombstone is located at Dundee Township Cemetery West, the lot was not purchased until 12 years after her death. Where was Sarah originally buried? Was she buried at Schroeder Cemetery, where her husband Marshall had cemetery lots assigned to him? Were her remains moved with her tombstone?
