Andreas J. Wald, 76, of Napoleon died Friday morning in the St. Alexius hospital at Bismarck where he had been a patient for a month.
Funeral services were held Monday in St. Philip church at Napoleon with Fr. Lous Veit officiating assisted by Fr. Aleksonis. Burial was in St. Philip cemetery.
Pallbearers were Joe Hilzendeger, Frank Horner, Franz Glatt, Tony Glatt, John Weigel, John W. Wangler and Joe Wangler. Honorary pallbearers were Joe Grad, Jacob Kuntz, Raphael Gross, John Heizler and Frank Roehrich. Wm. Glatt, who was to have been an honorary pallbearer, died about six hours before the funeral. Feigum-Doerr were in charge of arrangements.
Born Aug. 16, 1878, in Russia, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wald, Andreas came to the United States with a brother Anton in 1890 and they settled at Bowdle, S.D. In 1902 he went to Zeeland, where he first worked on the section, and later ran a dray and livery. He then became a cream buyer, and bought cream for over 40 years. he came to Napoleon in 1942 to operate a cream station and shoeshop, retiring two years ago.
He was married to Eva Kraft at Bowdle in 1905. She died in 1920. He married Mariana Zahn in 1921.
He leaves his wife, three children by his first wife, Conrad Wald of Bismarck, Frank Wald of Napoleon and Mrs. John (Rose) Hoerner of Compton, Calif., and two children by his second wife, Mrs. Mike (Pauline) Schaffer of Bismarck and Mrs. Joe (Mary) Zeigler of Hazelton.
Among relatives from out of town attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. F. B. Schumacher and Mrs. Roy Gaden of Hoven, S.D., Mr. and Mrs. Frank A. Wald of Highmore, S.D., Edward DeWald, Mrs. Barbara Weron, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Weber of St. Paul, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Peter Blum and Mrs. Paul Wandler of New England, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Anderson of Aberdeen, Mrs. Glen Brown of Watertown, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wald and Mr. and Mrs. Kasmer Wald of Karlsruhe, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sitter of Berwick. Friends included Mr. and Mrs. Mike Ternes of Yakima, Wash., Mrs. Mary Erck and Mr. and Mrs. Mike J. Burgad of Strasburg.
