HUGHES, Christine Harris, of Richmond, peacefully went to be with the Lord on April 23, 2008. She was born in Glade Springs, Virginia on October 12, 1928. Christine was a military wife for 20 years, retired from C&P Telephone Company after 32 years of service, a member of the American National Pioneers Association and a member of the Eastern Star. She made a lasting impression on everyone whose life she touched and was known as "Mom" or "Grandma" to many. She was a kind and loving person who always put the needs of others before herself. Her pride and joy in life was providing her baked pies and famous cookies to all of those who loved them. She will never be forgotten, and while our hearts are broken, we know there is a beautiful pair of wings waiting for her in heaven. Chris is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and John Riding; her son, Daniel Johnson; her brother, Joe Harris; two sisters, Billie Harris-Wildes and Bow Guill, and their spouses, Nancy Harris and Clyde Guill. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kim Barnard and her husband, Bernie Barnard Jr., Jennifer Riding, Joshua Riding and Zachary Johnson; two great-grandchildren, Brandon Barnard and Ben Barnard; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, daughter, Terry Drew; and two brothers, Dowl Harris and Junior Harris. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, Va. 23060. Memorial services will be held at the Palmer Chapel in Hollywood Cemetery on Saturday, May 3, at 3 p.m. A reception will follow. Arrangements by Bliley's-Central.
