He was the son of Katchar and Makrouhi Bedikian Chavooshian of Sivas, the Ottoman Empire. His birth year here is an approximation, as late as 1895 is given in some records but that is unlikely. Katchar died when Nazaret was young and his mother and sisters were killed in the Armenian Genocide of 1915. Nazaret was living in America at the time and against the protests of his relatives there he risked his life to go back and fight against the Turks and resist the genocide. In 1920 he was living at Aleppo, Syria and took the ship Lafayette from Le Havre, France to Ellis Island with his wife Siranoush (Sirouhi), brother Haroutune, and a with a 9 year old girl also called Siranoush listed as "adopted sister's daughter". They arrived June 18, 1920 and there's a record of him marrying Siranoush (Sirouhi) on July 25, 1920 at Philadelphia, possibly a remarriage to solidify the marriage in America. They had four children: Barkev, twins who died young, Hagop and Margaret, and Albert. At his death he lived at 6204 Lansdowne Avenue in Philadelphia and died of a coronary occlusion contributed to by diabetes. Some sources list Nazaret as being born in 1889, death certificate says 1890, while his grave says 1891.
