After the death of his wife Sarah, and the settling in of his children with several other family members on his return to New York, Randall remarried. Its believed that he left in the spring of 1847 for St. Clair County, Michigan, there he would stay with his sister and brother in law, Nelson & Rebecca (Whitman) Horton, as he was planning to move his family to Michigan and wished to find a suitable place. He himself died only a few months later in 1847.

Known placement of children:

Ira, Henry, Mary & Sarah went to live with their uncle Nicholas Severance (their mothers brother) in Castile, Wyoming County, New York.

William and Phebe went to live with their uncle Ira Whitman (their fathers brother) and family in Sparta, Livingston County, New York.
