Augusta Nelson Cox.
The deceased, whose maiden name was Augusta Nelson, was born in Washington county, Ill., July 6, 1831. Lived there until 1865, when she moved to Central, Illinois, where she lived until about 1878, when she came to Sumner county, Kansas. She has since lived in this vicinity. She died Jan. 31, 1901, and had she lived until her next birthday would have been 70 years old.
She was united in marriage with Moses Cox April 13, 1848. Seven children survive her, five sons and two daughters. In early life Mrs. Cox gave her heart to the Lord, became a member of the M.E. church, and has always been a devoted Christian. When told by the best physicians that she had only a a short time to live, she replied: "It is all right if it is the Lord's will. Not my will but Thine be done," that she did not fear death, as she had Jesus in the vessel, and so on. During her sickness she was a patient sufferer, daily prayer and asking the Lord to be with her. She was a kind and loving mother who will be greatly missed.
The funeral service was conducted by Rev. J.A. Holmes and the remains laid to final rest Saturday, February 2, 1901.
