Unverified bio: Husb. of many (9?) wives and F/o of many children before his untimely death in the explosion of the steamboat,LUCY WALKER, on the Ohio River, Indiana (near Louisville,KY). His son-in-law, Preston T. Mackey, perished with him then, and is buried in Red Hill cem. Joseph was the son of a Chief of the Cherokees James Vann, and Nancy Brown Vann. He was the father of Nancy Vann Mackey; and Delilah Amelia, wife of Oliver H. Perry Brewer (Brewer cemetery).

Original newspaper article says captain/owner of the steamboat was David Vann. There is no mention of Joseph Vann in the article. I am researching to find valid documentation for bio information listed above. 12/18/2020
