He was the first child born in America to his immigrant parents Krikor and Yakout Setian, who had escaped persecution in their native Ottoman Empire. Krikor had been a French teacher there but the family did what jobs they could in professor like running a grocery lived very poor. Haig was the first in his family to attend college and he graduated from Drexel University with a degree in engineering. He worked at the Philadelphia customs house on Second Street for many years. He married Lena Parigian and had two daughters. He lived in New York in his later years.
