Ludwich, contrary to some records, was born in 1794. He was the son of Daniel Niederhaus (aka: John D. Nitterhouse.) Ludwich was more commonly known as Lewis. He served in the War of 1812. Like his brothers John and Philip, he was carpenter.

Lewis married Margaret Sosey (1798-1874)and fathered two sons: George Washington Nitterhouse, Sr. (1818-1891) and Franklin L. Nitterhouse (1824-1896). It is not known whether Lewis was alive to see the birth of his 2nd son. George remained in Chambersburg, PA and Franklin settled in Ohio.

Ludwich's name is engraved on the southern side of the obelisk shaped grave monument. John D's (Daniel) is on the eastern side, Elizabeth (John's wife) is on the northern side. A second "Mrs." is buried at that grave site and is most likely Lewis' wife Margaret Sosey.

The death date for Lewis comes from the Family Record pages of his sister Elizabeth Nitterhouse Newcomer's Bible that was added to ancestry.com by one of her descendants.
