Wylie Winton Akers, 74, of Bastian, died Saturday, April 3, 1999, in the Bluefield Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 6, at 11 a.m. at the Newberry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Wall officiating. Interment followed in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Bastian.
He was born in Bland County, a son of the late James Bishop and Luella Lambert Akers. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He had retired from the Bluefield Sash and Door Company.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nelsene Marie Akers; a brother, Columbus Lee Akers; and two sisters, Lena Mae Lambert and Virgie Puckett.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Earl Terry and Doris "Dee" Akers of Bastian; four grandchildren and two spouses, Sherri and Todd Akers of Rocky Gap, Matthew Akers, Cynthia Akers, and Adam and Jessica Akers, all of Bastian; two brothers, Charles H. Akers of Rocky Gap, and Walter E. "Jake" Akers of Bastian; two sisters, Mary Puckett, and Lucille Burton, both of Rocky Gap; and a very special friend, Janet Weddle of Bastian.
Newberry Funeral Home in Bland was in charge of the arrangements.
