In June, 1941, Ed entered service in the United States Army and received his training at Edgewood Arsenal, Maryland, and remained there until Oct., 1941, when he was discharged. In Jan., 1942 he was again inducted into service, and was stationed at Little Rock, Arkansas, Edgewood Arsenal, Maryland and Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania, before being sent overseas in Feb., 1943. As a member of the 7th U. S. Army, under General Patton, he served in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France and Germany. Discharged as a sergeant, he returned home in October, 1945.
