My Great Grandfather. Born in Hungary, his daughter Viola (Hojnacki) is my Grandmother. Johann and his wife Matilda arrived in New York, NY on the vessel Kaiser Wilhelm. They soon after moved to Gary Indiana where Matilda had relatives. Chicago, Illinois was next where two of their children were born and finally Michigan where a third child, a daughter Josephine was born in 1912. John was unable to be buried in a Catholic cemetery since he was Lutheran. He wanted to convert to Catholicism but it never happened. The Slobodniks lived at 118 Rathbone St, in Mt Clemens, MI. The original house no longer stands. This photo was cropped from a family photo. 1910.
