Frederick was born in Charleston, South Carolina and married Elizabeth Gibbs. Living in the neck of the peninsula, he became a very successful house carpenter. He built the home at 214 Calhoun Street in Charleston which is on the National Register of Historic Places. He was the father of six sons and daughters. Over time he became the president of the Carpenter's Society of Charleston and served on a committee "for the purpose of nominating Candidates to the Legislature". In April 1859, Frederick was one of 200 citizens elected to be "Honorary Guard" over the remains of John C. Calhoun. These are only three examples of the numerous newspaper articles on Frederick and his family. He was also an absentee owner of Arundel Plantation in Georgetown, SC. He died at age 63, with two sons having preceded him in death, and his wife Elizabeth would remain without him for 27 years. Regarding his descendants: two died in childhood; two had children who never married; five never married;and two have descendants today.
