Obituary
In the death of John Sugden Thursday
evening Mayville lost one of its most
respected citizens.
Mr. Sugden was one of the pioneers in this
community having come with his family to
Dayton in 1885, Mr. Sugden was born in
Yorkshire, England Nov. 30, 1839, and married
to Miss Olive Goodeil Dec. 25, 1864.
To this union was born nine children.
Like other pioneers Mr. Sugden was of a
vigorous nature, always finding work to
do and doing it with a will, The fruits of
his energy was a plendid farm in Dayton
where he lived until ten years ago when
he move to Mayville.
Mr. Sugden was afflicted about two years
ago and nothing but his iron constitution
had kept him alive. A man of splendid
integrity has passed away and we who are
left may well look to his life and find
in it many things which we may well emulate.
Besides the helpmate of the years, there is
left to mourn his loss, five sons, Wm,, of Rich,
Frank, of Mayville, Charles, of Dayton, John,
of Cass City, Milton with the A.E.F.
"somewhere in France", and four daughters,
Mrs. Harmon Fox, Mrs. Isaac Belknap and
Mrs. Fred Hunt of Mayville, and Mrs. H.A.
Williams, of Los Angeles, California, One
sister Mrs. Anna Goodeil, of Caro, twenty
six grandchildren, besides a multitude of
friends,
A sacred spark created by bis breath,
The immortal mind of man his image bears;
A spirit living mid the forms of death,
Oppresed but not subdued by mortalcares
