"DR. HELLYER'S FUNERAL
Well-Known Kensington Physician Will Be Buried To-morrow
Dr. Edwin Hellyer, who died on January 16, at his late residence in Kensington, was one of the oldest in practice of that section's physicians. He was a graduate of the Long Island College Hospital of the class of 1864 and started practice in this city the following year, serving as a surgeon in the National Guards Hospital during the Civil War.
Dr. Hellyer contracted a chill while visiting a patient, a few days previous to his death, which developed into congestion of the lungs. While he enjoyed an extensive practice, he gave much of his time to charitable causes, principally in the section of Kensington. For thirty years he was connected with the Northeaster Soup Society, and was up to his death its president, which position he held for ten years. For many years he had been a practicing physician of the Penn Widow's Asylum; for nineteen years he was a member of the Thirty-first Ward Section School Board; for twenty years he was on the Ground Committee of the I. O. O. F. Cemetery, and stood high in the orders in which he was affiliated.
Dr. Hellyer leaves a widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Marston Hellyer; also a son William Hellyer, who is a civil engineer.
Funeral services will be held at Dr. Hellyer's late residence, 2341 East Susquehanna avenue, to-morrow afternoon, at 1 o'clock. Private interment at Mount Peace Cemetery. Rites of the orders, F. and A. M. and I. O. O. F., will be held at the grave."
