Note: The term "Aged" on Susannah's gravestone reflects one of the common abbreviations for the Latin term Aetatis (i.e., Æ, "Aged," in the XX year of his/her Age). Aetatis was the basis of a person's inscribed age at death on gravestones throughout North America prior to the mid-1800s. Aetatis meant a person was one full year older than a person's chronological age (i.e., the 1st year of age begins at birth and ends the day before the person celebrates his/her 1st birthday). On its face the word "Aged" on Susannah's gravestone means she was b. Dec. 30, 1806. Or, if incorrectly used she was the chronological age stated in the inscription, b. Dec. 30, 1805. The latter date of birth has been used in this memorial, but could have been the former date one year later.
