Louise was born in Germany and came as a widow with her four sons to America in 1867 on board the Leocadia. Her husband, Karl, died in Germany prior to the voyage. They gave their point of departure as Sophienhof, which at the time was part of Brandenberg, Germany. The town is now called Przybysław and is in Western Pomerania in Poland.

She and her sons first settled in Watertown, Wisconsin then to Menomonie by 1880.

She died at the home of her son William, April 30, at 4 p.m., in her 80th year.
