Born in Washington County, where he spent his entire life, he was a retired farmer and attended the Fordtown Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Eleanor Hawk Cornwell of the home; four daughters, Mrs. Margaret Fox of Rt. 5 Jonesboro, Mrs. Glen (Laura) Ford, Rt. 2 Jonesboro, Mrs. J. D. (Reba) Hall, Rt. 10, Jonesboro, and Mrs. Shirley Cornwell of the home; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
