Son of James Hillhouse Martin and Floy Elsie (Wood) Martin. Kenneth Martin was born September 12, 1919, in his grandparent's home (Charles & Margaret Wood). The house was located 5 1/2 Miles S.E. of Rockville off the Bridgeton Road. Their divorce was final, in September 1919, just after Kenneth was born.

Brother of James Everett. Kenneth was five when his mother died. They were raised by their grandmother, Margaret "Maggie" Brownlow (Jacks ) Wood. Margaret took in sewing. Everett and Kenny delivered newspapers.

He graduated from Rockville High School in 1937.

On August 12, 1939, Miss Marguerite Campbell and Kenneth R. Martin, both of Rockville, were solemnized at 8 o'clock Saturday night, at the home of the Rev. Claude Ward, pastor of the Memorial Presbyterian church. Marguerite preceded him in death on February 20, 1996. They were married for 56 & 1/2 years.

Parents of Doyne Russell, Donna Sue, Darrell Lee, Debra Lynn and Darla Jo.

Kenny served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was on a wooden yard minesweeper off the coast of France. He was present during the invasion of Normandy. The ship's number was YMS-375. Damaged by a mine on October 8, 1944, off Brest, France.

During his life, he worked as a dry cleaner at Band Box Cleaners, Bumgardner's Cleaners and was a partner in A & M Cleaners, all in Rockville. He and his wife owned and operated Martin Cleaners and Laundromat in Rockville at 708 West Ohio Street. In the 1950 Census (North Virginia Street, Rockville) occupation: Clothing Cleaners: Dry Cleaning Plant. They sold the business after 25 years in 1976. He worked at the Rockville Training Center for incarcerated male juveniles in the boiler room for 10 years. He retired.

He was a 50-year member of Parke County Lodge No. 8 F&AM (Free & Accepted Masons), Parke County Low 12, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute 32nd Degree, Parke County Scottish Rite Club, VFW Post 1752, American Legion Post 48, and past president of Rockville Rotary Club. He served on the Selective Service System Local Board No. 62 for five years during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Rockville United Methodist Church. He was also an avid bowler, as was his brother.

The family enjoyed boating, skiing and fishing on Raccoon Lake. He was a member of the Wabash Valley Power Squadron.
