Emit Harness, age 66, a resident of the Frost Bottom Community in Oliver Springs, died Thursday, October 21, 2010 at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge.

Mr. Harness was born on the 15th day of May, 1944 in Oliver Springs. He moved to Indiana in 1963 and continued to live there until his move back to Tennessee in 2006. Before his retirement he was employed at General Motors, Inc. for thirty years. While employed at General Motors he worked in assembly and as a painter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lummie C. Harness and flora Lowe Harness, by sisters, Ella Pickle, Ada Patterson and Ozie Bass and by brothers; Arie, Evan, Tim, Ervin and Marshall Harness.

Emit is survived by his wife, Geraldine Coker Harness of Oliver Springs, by a daughter, Paula Harness of Anderson, IN, by sons; Emmitt Randy Harness of Oliver Springs, James Edward Harness of Anderson, IN and Leslie Charles Harness of Oliver Springs, by 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Retha Bass and husband, Rev. Clyde Bass of Oliver Springs and Motlaney Vann of Florida, and by a host of nieces and nephews, extended family members and special friends.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 7:00 pm in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home with Pastor Glenn Ledbetter officiating.

The family will receive friends between the hours of 6:00 and 7:00 pm on Saturday at the funeral home. Sharp Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
