She was born in Augusta on Feb. 9, 1920, the daughter of Lawrence and Irene (Hutchinson) Nilson. Marguerite grew up around Hallowell and was a graduate of Hallowell High School. She also attended the Kennebec School of Commerce in Gardiner. She worked for Sea and Shore Fisheries and for Harveys Distributing in Gardiner. Marguerite married Verne Grant on Aug. 10, 1946. She lived most of her life in Hallowell but had resided at Mount St. Joseph in Waterville for the last 12 years.
Marguerite was predeceased by her husband, Verne, in 1979; her brother Herbert Nilson; and her sisters Adele Beckim and Betty Rigdon.
She is survived by her son, William "Bill" Grant and his wife, Kim, of Wales; her daughter, Linda Ward and her husband, Hollis, of Winslow; her brother Neil Nilson, of Durham, Conn.; her sister Ermalene Nilson, of San Diego; her grandchildren, Susan Dufour, Melissa Haskell, Douglas, Adam, and Joseph Grant; and her great-grandchildren, Mason Dufour and Natalie Grant.
Burial will be at the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta.
