Fields J. Helton, age 82, died
early Friday morning, April 2nd,
at his home in West Richlands
after a lingering illness covering
a period of three years.
Mr. Helton was born in Richlands,
the son of Asa and Mary Vance
Helton, who were pioneer settlers
of this section. He was educated
in Tazewell County schools and
followed the vocation of farming
until his illness caused him to
retire. His wife, the former
Melinda Brown, preceded him in
death in 1930.
He is survived by the following
children, Mrs. Molly Hazard, Wash-
ington, D. C., Mrs. Barbara Moore,
Newhall, W. Va., Mrs. Margaret
Watson, Berwind, W. Va., Mrs.
Carra Hopson, Russell, Ky., Mrs.
Mattie Beavers, Raven, Va.,
Albert, Bluefield, Tom and Byrd,
of Red Ash, and Ira, of Washing-
ton, D. C., 42 grandchildren
also survive.
Funeral services were held Sun-
day afternoon at 2 P.M., in the
Layman's Chapel. Rev. M. M.
Peaks of Bluefield, Va., was the
officiating minister. Interment
was in the Hankins cemetery.
Farmer Funeral Home was in charge.
