Carrie Nelson, originally Kersti Nilsdotter, was the third of nine children born to Nils Olsson and Anna Rasmusdotter. She was born Thursday, 18 Nov 1869, at No. 25 Stora Herrestad, Malmöhus, Skåne, Sweden, and baptized 28 Nov 1869 in Stora Herrestad. From 1876-87, she lived at No. 26 Gatehus in Stora Herrestad, and, 8 Nov 1887, moved to No. 9 Borrie, Herrestad. The 1940 U.S. census says that she had six years of education.

Carrie emigrated at approx. age 19, living in Denver, Colorado, before moving to Eagle Lake Township, Otter Tail County, Minnesota, in Sept. 1892. She married Peter Munson Rosenquist 8 Sep 1892 at Kristina Lake (prob. Christina Lake Lutheran Church), in Douglas County, though their marriage is recorded in Otter Tail County. After a few moves, they settled permanently in Eagle Lake twp, in the northwest quarter of section 15, on the southwest shore of Eagle Lake. They had three children. Carrie's mother, Anna, lived with Carrie in her last years.

Carrie died at home, in Eagle Lake twp on Thursday, 30 Dec 1943 at 10:30 a.m. She had suffered a stroke on 19 Dec. Carrie's funeral was at Eagle Lake Lutheran Church, in Clitherall twp, Monday, 3 Jan 1944, and she was buried in the church cemetery, next to her husband.

Carrie's mitochondrial (maternal) DNA haplogroup was J1c3.
