Glen Van Tassell, age 92, passed away peacefully, amid family members in Statesboro, Ga., on Oct. 20, 2010.

He was born and raised in Vernal, Utah-a place that always had a special place in his heart. He married Erma Marchant; their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary just prior to her death in 1999.

He owned and operated several farms and ranches throughout Utah and Idaho before going into the real estate business. A love of traveling took them to many places in the United States and several countries abroad. He loved to camp, hunt and fish and cook breakfast over a campfire, especially if there were a few fish in the frying pan. He very much enjoyed his horses, whether it was taking his team to the horse-pulling contest or riding into the high Uinta mountains.

His greatest love was his family and he enjoyed watching and hearing about their accomplishments. The last five years he lived in Statesboro, Ga., with his son and daughter-in-law and their family. He spent a lot of late night hours watching Jazz games. He was able to return to Utah this August and visit with approximately 70 members of his family. He was also able to make a trip to Vernal and the Uintah Basin. He was very, very delighted to be able to spend those few days with his family.

He was born Sept. 27, 1918 to Henry Owen and Florence Sidney Moon Van Tassell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Erma, his siblings: Bill, Cliff, Dailey, Evelyn, Carl, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his children: Joan Foy (Jack), Altamont, Utah; Lane (Chris), Statesboro, Ga.; Kay Persons (Ed), West Valley City, Utah; Dick (Kathryn), York, Penn.; Jerry (Kathy), Pocatello, Idaho; Gene (Tammy), Cottonwood Heights, Utah; Joy Poulson (Karey), Fruit Heights, Utah; and Brent (Cheryl), Lehi, Utah. He has 36 grandchildren, 83 great-grandchildren and 7 great, great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon, Tues., Oct. 26 at the LDS Chapel 4310 S. 3500 West, West Valley City, Utah. A viewing will be held from 10-11:30 a.m. prior to the services.
Burial will be in the Riverton City Cemetery. Funeral and burial arrangements are by Broomhead Funeral Home, Riverton.
