HANNIBAL - John R. Abbey Jr., 54, of Hannibal, died at 6:35 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.
Graveside services, with military honors by the Clarence Woodson American Legion Post 155, will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at Hope Cemetery in Hannibal. President Matt Shuck will officiate.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal.
Mr. Abbey was born Dec. 12, 1947, in Lincoln, Neb., to John R. and Clara Minter Abbey Sr.
He was married to Maria A. Robinson on March 9, 1996. She survives.
Other survivors include his mother, Clara Jones of Hannibal; two sons, Walter Johnson of Champaign, Ill., and Aaron Norfolk of Fulton; five daughters, Robin Wells and Michelle Watson, both of Davenport, Iowa, Victoria Johnson of Quincy, Ill., Katrina Ballard of Bowling Green and Taylena Norfolk of Fulton; six brothers, Boyd L. Snoddy of the state of Illinois, Virgil L. Snoddy of Hannibal, Randolph Snoddy of Moberly, Irvin Childs of St. Louis, Dennis Childs of Macon and Robert Childs of Fulton; four sisters, Mary King of Columbia, Teanna Snoddy of Hannibal, Michelle Donnan of Peoria, Ill., and Rhonda Kerr of Vandalia; and nine grandchildren.
Mr. Abbey was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Vietnam war. He worked for Ferro-sil in Keokuk, Iowa and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
