James ""Frenchie"" Navarre, age 80, of Haughton, Louisiana, formerly of Hot Springs, died Monday, October 25, 2010. Born on November 7, 1929, in Duson, La. to Dorzin Navarre and Celena Dumane Navarre. On December 3, 1951, he married the love of his life Jeanette Leger. He was a member of the Oaklawn Church of God. A race horse trainer for many years and that was highly respected in this field. James was loved by everyone he came in contact with. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who enjoyed visiting with friends, family and loved working in his garden.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Navarre of Haughton , Louisiana; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Warren and Denise Navarre of Pearcy, and Bradley Navarre of Hot Springs; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Sharon and Rogie Wilson of Greenville, Texas, Jackie Davis of Haughton, Louisiana, and Gayle and Jim Herndon of Haughton, Louisiana; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Isaac Navarre of Crowley, Louisiana; two sisters, Thresa Stelly of Lafayette, Louisiana, and Anna Morrow of Galveston, Texas; nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.


Services were held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, at Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Hot Springs, Pastor Steve Nelson officiated. Interment followed in Crestview Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs.
