Christian Ludwig (went by Lewis; Ludwig is German for Lewis) Rominger was the eldest of ten known children of Michael Rominger (1780-1824) and Christina Ebert Rominger (1782-1844), who married 23 Oct 1804 at Stokes (present day Forsyth) County, North Carolina.

Lewis was raised a farmer, in the vicinity of the Moravian Community of Friedberg, then on the border of Stokes and Rowan (now Forsyth and Davidson) Counties, North Carolina. Lewis married Elizabeth Hyre/Hire (1807-1896) on 05 May 1827 at Davidson County, North Carolina. Their first child was born in North Carolina, their second in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana and their third through seventh in the area around the Moravian community at Hope, Bartholomew County, Indiana. Their last two children were born in Davis County, Indiana where they were living in 1850, with Lewis listed as a carpenter.

Lewis and Elizabeth had a total of nine known children, five boys and four girls. All nine children lived to maturity. The nine children were:

1. John Wesley Rominger (1828-1899)
2. Josiah Rominger (1830-1912)
3. Amos Denes Rominger (1832-1912)
4. Uriah Rominger (1835-1906)
5. Nancy Jane Rominger Weidman (1837-1887)
