Born c.1711, 20-year-old Thomas Woodruff Jr, (name spelled "Thomas Woodrowfe Junr" on gravestone), predeceased his 17-year-old younger sibling, Matthias, by a little over a year. The youthful brothers, the sons of Thomas and Hannah (nee Ward) Woodruff, lie interred beneath a dual gravestone which appears to be the work of the "Old Elizabethtown Soul Carver II", an unidentified artisan active during the 1720's-30's whose work features winged, mask-like soul effigies that reflect the transition from the grim, earlier skulls to the more face-like images of the later 1700's.
