He married (1) Julia Marinda Brackin 16 Aug 1867; (2) Elizabeth M. Layman 25 Nov 1888; and (3) Laura Fleming King 13 February 1895, all in Sevier Co., TN.

from Deane Ownby Levi:
They [her paternal grandparents, Joel Ownby and his second wife, Malinda Clark Evans} and my maternal grandparents, P.H. and Julia Brackin Whaley, bought a large land grant together, about six or seven miles east of Dudley in the Big Greenbrier Cove in the 2nd Civil District of Sevier County.
At this time Pinkney H. and Julia lived in Emerts Cove (now Pittman Center) on the left side of Highway 73, and Pinkney operated a grocery store on the right just as you leave Highway 73 going into Big Greenbrier Cove. The line of this land grant started near the Moore Hill, crossed the river and went up though the Horseshoe Area to the top of the mountain. It took in Cannon Creek, Fall Branch, Laws Creek, to the top of Brushy Mountain to LeConte, back across the Potato Hill, took in Briery Flats, Sugar Orchard, and Spruce Flats to the head of Long Branch, to the Sand Branch, down the top of Potato Hill and back to the Moore Hill line (beginning line).
When the land was divided, starting in the Indian Nation above (where the Ownby Cemetery is now), Pinkney built him a house and barn on the right hand fork of the Little Pigeon River, where the Hiking Club Cabin now stands.(Now a section of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park). Pinkney built his house near a good cold spring of water, and built a spring house over the water. Pinkney was a merchant and farmer, he lived and farmed there for several years before moving to Bradley County, Tennessee, in 1903.
