Lillian's mother met and fell in love with a wonderful man, Joseph Kraus, who would take over all fatherly duties. It is unclear if he actually adopted her.
In 1909 Lillian married Carl George Vollmer. They had four children: Carl George Jr., Frederick James, Virginia M, and Ruth.
In her late 40's early 50"s, Lillian suffered a major stroke. She was left paralyzed on her one side. This did not stop her from doing what she loved the most...cooking and gardening. Lillian always prepared the best tasting meals and always had homemade sweets on hand. Her husband, Carl, helped her with anything she asked or needed.
Lillian was my Great Grandmother. She died in a nursing home Sept. 2, 1980 of heart failure/heart attack. I believe she died of a broken heart...missing Grandpa. She was 90 years old.
My favorite memory of Grandma, besides her great cooking and beautiful rose garden, is the fact that she had a hall closet full of toys for the grand kids. From dolls, trucks, to puzzles, and coloring books....Grandma made sure it was stocked full of goodies to play with.
Lillian was a great story teller and had a great love for her family. I miss you and love you Grandma.
