"It seems certain that the various Patton's settling in Augusta County, VA, in the early part of the 18th century, were of the same origin as the father of whom was John Patton, brother of Col James Patton #60865656 and Elizabeth (Patton) Preston. Col James had come from Ireland in 1730. Probably one of the compelling reasons for the mass migration at this time was the forced exile of John Lewis in 1729."
