Mrs. Stevens, who died at the residence of Mr. William Wadleigh on Wednesday night of last week, mention being made last week, was the mother of Mrs. Wadleigh. She was the daughter of John and Betsey Heath, and was born at Conway, New Hampshire, September 7, 1798, and reached the remarkable old age of 95 years 2 months and 16 days. Her life was eventful and began among the rugged hills of New England, when the good people of New Hampshire were recovering from the perils and excitement of the Revolution. She was married at Fryburg, N.H., March 1, 1822 by Rev. Joseph Barrcross, to Mr. Hiram Stevens.
There were eight children born to them, as follows: Abigail B. and Mary E., who have passed to the better land, and Mrs. Sarah Hodgman, Salt Lake City, Utah, Mrs. Sophia Wadleigh, Beaver Dam, Mrs. Louisa Herbert, Merrill, Minn., Mrs. Clara Butterfield, Dering, N.H., Mrs. Hiram Bailey, Waukegan, Ill., and Mrs. Mehitabel Meigs, Beaver Dam.
Mrs. Stevens came to Wisconsin in 1856, with her husband and family, Mr. Stevens dying the following year. Since then she has not keep house. She has lived with Mr. & Mrs. William Wadleigh for twenty-one years and through advancing age and infirmity has seen much of comfort with her children and friends. She died in peach and in the good hope of heaven. Her funeral was at Mr. Wadleigh's on Saturday, at 2p.m. and her burial at the old cemetery.
