John M. Baal, Sr. passed away on Tuesday, November 2, 2010, at his residence. Born in Lebanon, on June 17, 1928, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary Schaeffer Baal. He retired from the former Lebanon Steel Foundry and was also a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He retired after 33 years of service as a Lt. Col. from the Army National Guard, 28th Div., stationed in Harrisburg. He was an Ammunitions Officer. He was a lifelong and active member of the St. Cecelia's Catholic Church, Lebanon. He had a passion for the military and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and dancing He is survived by his sons, John M. Baal, Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev., Gregory, husband of Diana Baal of Las Vegas, and David A., husband of Kim Baal of Jonestown; daughter, Patrice A. Baal of Las Vegas; sister, Elizabeth M. Beatty of Lebanon; and nine grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 8, 2010, at 10 a.m. at St. Celilia's, 202 E. Lehman St., Lebanon, 17046. Visitation will be held on Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home & Crematory, Rt. 72 and Camp Meeting Road, Jonestown.
