DELTA - Helen Stevens Baker, loving wife, mother, grandmother, neighbor and friend, age 85, passed away February 22, 1999 at her Sherwood Shores home in Delta.

Born July 15, 1913 in Holden Utah, to Edward Franklin and Maude Robins Stevens. Married Cecil Frank Baker August 20, 1931 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died January 30, 1972.

Helen's early years were spent working on the family farm at White Bush and in the family store in Holden. Graduated from Millard High School in 1930 where she was chosen as most popular girl. Attended the BAC at Cedar City for one year. After marriage Cecil attended the University of Idaho for three years, acquiring a Pharmacy Degree. Helen managed a soda fountain at Keeley's and took in boarders to help him through school.

After graduation they moved to Delta where he was employed by Thorton Drug. After World War II they purchased the drug store and it became Baker Pharmacy. After Cecil's death, Helen continued to manage the store until it was sold. An active member of the LDS Church, she served as Stake Young Womens President, Stake Dance Director and in various other positions. She served in the Louisville Kentucky Mission. Cecil and Helen were involved in civic activities including saving the Riverbend Golf Course from closure, then financing and maintaining it for 10 years. They then donated the course to Millard County and it was named the Cecil F. Baker Golf Course. After the golf course was destroyed by the flood of 1983 the county used money from F.I.M.A. and the donation of water and land from the Derral Christensen family and built the Sunset View Golf Course. In 1987 Helen received the Delta Area Chamber of Commerce Area Giant Award. She also received the Millard County Jr. Livestock Show Outstanding Supporter Award. She was on the FHA farm Loan Committee and a member of the DUP. Her love for flowers is portrayed as her yard is an array of color from early spring through fall. She received many sweepstakes awards at the Millard County Fair for her beautiful flowers.
