LaVonne was a polio victim in 1946 and fought the effects of her paralysis throughout her life successfully while growing up in Waterloo, Iowa and graduating from East Waterloo HS. Steel braces, surgeries and doctors at the Mayo Clinic were very much a part of her life. She went to Gradwahl Laboratory Institue in St Louis in 1954 and met her husband John Kilgore. They had two sons, Charles and David whom they raised in Kansas & Blythe, CA. LaVonne spent her later years in Orange Co, CA with Charles trying to find some normalcy in her life after a disastrous accident in Blythe and a subsequent divorce to obtain medical assistance. LaVonne exceeded the expectations of her many doctors and lived until July of 2004 enjoying the sunshine of Orange Co as best she could.
