About 36 years ago, in the spring of 1882, he gave his heart to God and united with the Mennonite Church, remaining faithful until death called him to his home above. He was very patient in his lingering illness, often expressing a desire to go to his heavenly home. He was an active and useful member in the Church.
The last seventeen years of his life were spent in the interests of the cause at the Orphans' Home at West Liberty, Ohio, serving that institution as superintendent faithfully and competently until a year ago last July, when he suffered a stroke of apoplexy. Last summer he and his companion made their home with their son, Harvey, near Columbiana, Ohio, where he quietly and peacefully fell asleep Oct. 27.
Brief services were held at the home, Oct. 29, and at the Midway Church (open air) where many friends and relatives had gathered to pay their last tribute of respect to one whose services and work were highly appreciated. Funeral was in charge of Bro. A. J. Steiner assisted by D. Lehman and J. Burkholder. Text, Luke 12:15, latter clause.
